Open Access: Publishing OA

Why publish OA?

  • Increase visibility: open access articles can be viewed by anyone with an internet connection, not just those with a journal subscription.
  • Promote social equity in scholarship: from individuals to schools to countries, cost barriers limit the ability to learn and engage in scholarly activities. Open access publication removes those barriers.
  • Required by funding agencies and schools: NIHthe Bill & Melinda Gates FoundationNASAMIT, and Harvard University are only a few of the organizations and institutions that require faculty and grant recipients to make their work freely available.
