How Do I...?: Articles

Academic Journal Articles

Scholarly journal articles are written by academic experts who have done serious research in their field. Lipscomb Library has a collection of print journals, but most of our academic articles are now find-able through our online databases. There are two ways to find journal articles: Search for articles by topic, or search for journals in a specific field. Each option is broken down below.

Academic Journal Databases

Lipscomb Library subscribes to dozens of academic research databases. Below are a few standard multi-disciplinary databases. Check out the Database A-Z List or the Research Guides to find more databases, including those that are subject-specific.

Search for Articles by Topic

You can use a research database to search for academic literature by topic. Lipscomb Library subscribes to many databases; Academic Search Complete is a good general database to start with (the video below demonstrates how to use it). You can see our full list of databases in the Database A-Z List, or look at our subject guides to research to find recommended databases by subject area. For more on using the databases to find scholarly journal articles, see our guide on Using the Databases, or ask a librarian for help!

Find Journals by Title or Academic Field

If you're looking for a particular journal (such as The Journal of Academic Publishing), you can use the search box on the homepage to search for the title. You can also use the journal search feature to see which journals you can access in each academic area. For instance, if you're looking for journals that publish content on American history, try a keyword search for "American history."
