How Do I...?: Basic Troubleshooting

Basic Troubleshooting Tips

As with most things tech-related, there will be days when things just don't work as planned.  We've created this guide to help you with some quick tips, but don't forget to check out our Advanced Troubleshooting guide if following these steps does not resolve your issue.

Make sure you are using the same username and password that you use to log into the Randolph College portal and that your password has not expired.
Try to do the search again using another browser. If it works, then you know the problem is with a setting on your first browser. The Advanced Troubleshooting guide has instructions for common ways to troubleshoot browser issues.
Take a look at your browser settings. Disable any plug-ins or security settings that may prevent your browser from launching new tabs or block content.
Clear your cache and cookies in your browser.

If these steps do not work for you you can try some of the steps in the Advanced Troubleshooting guide, use the library chat feature on our main page, or contact us for further assistance.

Pro tip: When using links from any of Lipscomb Library's online resources, you should double-check that the following text prepends the URL for the resource: https://myportal.randolphcollege.edu:2443/login?url=

This is an example of a proxied URL from JSTOR: https://libraryproxy.randolphcollege.edu:2443/login?url=https://www-jstor-org.libraryproxy.randolphcollege.edu:2443/stable/3765666

While it is always best to link to articles, e-books, and other resources from the library's website, you can try to put that prefix in front of the URL for paywalled articles.  If the library owns the resource, it should let you gain access.
